arboretum in winter

last week my friend Len and I strolled through the UW Arboretum to clear our minds and get some air.  the weather wasn't all that great but it was nice to be there again.  I scouted places to shoot and went back today.  the weather was worse this time.  light snow all day.  I knew I wanted to do some jumps and that required a flippy skirt to accentuate the springiness.  so brrrrrr there.  I arrived and took the short cut of climbing the hill past the gazebo to get up onto the main road through.  I was lucky and dominated the hill like a mountain goat in wedge heels.  the ground was so frozen that it was crunchy and easier to maneuver.  quite happy I did not fall on my ass in my frilly pink skirt before any photos were snapped.  I was looking for the same service road Len and I wandered down all the way to the visitors center.  at a certain point it listed downward slowly and had a cool jag to the left.  I thought it would be a good stop for a jump.

then I wandered back down the road to the mountain ashes, or rowan trees.  I remembered a spot underneath one of them that was covered in green clover and looked like a nice place to lay down.  well, I didn't lay down today, with the ground so frozen, but sit a spell and snap some photos I did.

I stayed and shot until my battery was dead and I was pretty much ready to go. mountain goat down the hill and I'm motoring home to the warmth of a modern condo and thoughts of chowder for dinner.
today was fun but tomorrow I'm shooting inside, for sure!

new phone, better pics

finally got a new phone!  I really needed one, my old blackberry was crap.  I chose the HTC HD7 windows phone because it had the features I wanted and it was free.  :-)  after 2 days of having no idea how to work it, I now love this phone.  it's easy to operate, has a large touch screen and isn't too heavy to carry around.

one of the best parts is the camera on this phone.  so much better than the old one.  it even has a few different settings to choose from to make your photos look their best.  last weekend I took both my HTC phone and my Sony DSLR out to the lake for a shoot off.  I spotted an overturned leaf that had gathered dew and looked great.  I shot a similar photo of a feather a while back but I figured this would do for the challenge.

here are the photos I shot with the HTC.  I believe it was on macro mode for these.

not too shabby for a phone camera.  now here are two that I shot with my Sony.

the biggest difference being depth of focus.  maybe a bit of color difference.  the HTC can't match the sony but it's still impressive for a camera phone.  I can't wait to take it to a concert, see if it does a decent job or not.

cheers!!

it was meant to be a simple more straightforward photo but apparently venus got a hold of me. ;-)
I like it.  it's rather romantic, which is good since it's valentines day.

while I love the above photo, I wanted to share my favorite one from this shoot.

heading south

got a bunch of shots from this weekends trip to point defiance park.  we hit several tacoma points of interest including frisko freeze for shakes & burgers.  :-)  the weather was cooperative and by the time it was storming out we were safely tucked away eating hearty bowls of beef barley soup with salad, crusty bread and cheese with all our friends.

here are the photos, pretty much in order...

we started with food because we're not dumb. ;-)

my dance socks international

when one has a pro account at flickr you have access to your stats which tell you where views of your photos are coming from. it's not particularly in depth or anything but it is interesting.  I also found out one of my photos is being used in a beauty blog that I know nothing about.  I've seen my stuff in plenty of personal blogs before but nothing like this.  I eye it over and put together my polite email requesting credit for my own work in my head.  I'm not at all opposed to my photos being used for such things but I'd like to be credited, that's all.
huh?  oh man, this story is about toe nail fungus and how to avoid it.  !!!!  goddamn it!  I'm totally cracking up now, by the way.
awesome, my photo goes with toe nail fungus.  :-|
actually there are two photos and they are both lovely, mine included.  it just really makes me laugh is all.  oh and by the way, they did put a link at the bottom to my original image on flickr and I consider that credit.  so thank you Indian Makeup and Beauty Blog!!!  thank you for using my work in your article and for giving me due credit.  Namaste~

the link to the beauty blog is here.

think I'll post some of my favorite socks photos here in a day or two.  please check back if you'd like to see them. :-)

lady of leisure

my latest 365.  I'm equally digging the color and black & white of this shot so I figured I'd post both of them here.

I'm off to watch me some hulu.....

overcome by art

the newest photo in my 365.  overcome by art.

I'm quite happy with it as I only had an evening to concieve the idea, shoot, edit and post it.  I was telling a flickr friend that I think I've been spending too much time looking at the works of Brooke Shaden and Miss Aniela lately.  the art these ladies produce is so incredible and inspiring.  I'm sure that's where I got the want to twist and curve my body for last nights photo.  on another note, why the hell are the most painful and limb numbing poses the ones that appear so easy and natural in photos??!?!  it may not look it, but this hurt!

any price for ones art, eh?
