I got these little berry candies from the candy shop up in birch bay. I remember them being one of my favorites as a kid and getting them from the candy store in these little white bags. I also remember them being bigger. I mean I know my hands were littiler back then but still. I just know they were bigger back in the day. :)

poo. it's the last day of my staycation. and just when I was getting the swing of waking up when I wanted to. :[ the workshop I attended yesterday was awesome though I'm still struggling a bit as I need to use photoshop to edit with and I completely suck at it. I need more time to peck away at it but with so many other things going on as well as trying to chill a bit this past week, it may take me a few days. I did however make this photo a bit more "dusty" and darker which was a direct inspiration. just expect something gorgeous from me soon with regards to this workshop.

off with her head! - my first photo book~
to my list of titles I now add published author. :)
I just published my first photo book of self portraits through blurb and man was it fun!
I downloaded the booksmart software from blurb's website and then had to think up a theme to build my book around. well, I've got lots of selfies so I'll use them. but what kind of selfies? to be honest, the ones I had the most of were headless so I decided to go with that for my theme. why not?
thus was born the photo book "off with her head".
the booksmart software makes it super easy to drag and drop your photos into each of the pages and adding a bit of text was a snap. it's quite user friendly and easy to figure out. with so many choices of layouts you can try out lots until you find just the right one. in fact the only problem I had was stopping. I have a tendency to want to keep improving things and I finally had to give myself a cut off date. ;)
I had so much fun making this book and I want you to have the opportunity to make one too!
I'm requesting from blurb to be able to give away a $75 free book coupon to one of my readers so you can have the chance to get published as well. I hope to hear from them soon so stay tuned, I'll let you know as soon as I can run the contest.

got up and ran with dog in tennis courts this morning. found old Tracy Ullman video I was looking for. had lunch at root table with a friend and it was freaking delicious! got pics. then stopped by buffalo exchange and found this dress for 14 dollars. it's been a good day. good last day of vacation, well, still got the weekend but it's my last day for lounging when everyone else is working. :P
I also had time to nearly complete work on an awesome project that I've been gringing away on for the last few weeks and I think I'm actually done. should've been done by the start of the week but... anyhoo, stay tuned to my blog to hear the news in the next day or two.

back to birch bay!
Birch Bay Washington is pretty far up there.
almost to the Canadian border but not quite.
it's also where I spent so many of my summers growing up as a child. playing for hours out in the half moon bay where when the tide goes out it goes out for miles. collecting starfish, sandollars and tiny flounder to keep in my bucket for a bit.

our family would go clamming and crabbing out on the bay and then come home and eat like kings. fourth of July fireworks over the water. beach bar-be-ques. hot dogs, potato salad, and watermelon slices. ice cream and popsicles.
it was really great to be back there and the weather was warm and gentle so it was a fantastic trip down memory lane for me.

it was raining as we started out but soon gave way to sunshine

I had the ham and cheese quiche with a salad. sooo good!!
we had already decided to get giant cookies to go but caved in when we saw these pecan tarts and got one as well

there happened to be a sandcastle competition on the beach that day
this place used to be a video game arcade and packed with kids
I think this was always some sort of restaurant, can't remember though, it's always been there
The C Shop, the candy store at the end of the beach, down the road a bit. walking distance for kids. when kids could walk places that is.
there's an ice cream parlor next door too. NOM!!!
I got rocky road in a sugar cone, paul got moose tracks
the skies still sunny on us as we head for home
the rains came back as we approached the city.
it was such a blast to be back at the beach of my childhood

TGIF and staycation is ON!!! and what am I doing tonight? going to bed early actually. heading up to mount vernon for breakfast and then on to birch bay, which is up by the canadian border pretty much. I'm totally excited, birch bay is where I spent all my summers as a kid. clamming and crabbing and playing on the beach all day. picking up sand dollars and tiny flounders to keep in my bucket for a bit. yeah, I'm rediculously pleased to be seeing it all again. expect lots of pics from the trip here on the blog soon! :D

so long story short, I pulled a muscle and I feel pretty horrible. been putting a heat pack on and off of it all day. still, powering through and cleaning house since Teddy comes to stay for a week tomorrow. he's an awesome pooch I sit for somethimes. he and Chai love to chase each other around the furniture. such dog fun.
dinner tonight: mushroom udon noodle with red kamaboko.
now it's time to soak in the bath. been waiting on this all day. happy saturday night ya'll~
